Friday 3rd and Sat 4th September 2010 will be remembered for its high winds and good rains.
In some places these elements caused considerable damage, such as on the Eudunda Golf Course, where Tim Knight told us that 19 large trees (mainly pine) were blown over, with full roots and soil ripped out of the ground. When local identity Jenny Herriman drove to Robertstown for business she remarked that there were also many large trees down along the way. Other reports of a bird avery owned by a young lad being blown over with his birds escaping, and another person loosing thier chook shed. For tourists it was a matter of resting where you were, rather than risk the danger.
Sport continued on, Golf, Netball, Football in Eudunda where we were playing the teams from Auburn and we heard that at least two footballers were hospitalised with hyperthermia on the Saturday afternoon, hopefully they are ok now.
The Emergency Services were definitely kept busy thoughout the state and locally we saw flashing lights and sirens many times over this period.
Well done to them all – thank you!
Electricity was cut from approximately 3:30pm Saturday until about 8:30am Sunday, so far we havent heard the cause of that.
Telstra Mobile Phones were cut (emergency calls only available) from Sunday Morning until now (10:00am Tuesday) so they must have had some real issued.
The storm continued on through our state and into Eastern States, and has caused millions of dollars of flooding in Victoria.
We hear that good rains were reported, overall the rain must surely have done some good for this district.
We also heard that the River Light at Bagot’s Well is still flowing fast and impassible to certain properties.
According to local resident at Bagot Well – Jill Mosey who has to cross the river,
“It hasn’t been like that for years – that is, impassable for more than 12 hours. So, quite a monumental occasion actually.”
Interestingly – there is forecast more rain for this coming weekend.
