With no Probus meeting in September, instead at Fay Grosser’s suggestion a trip was arranged to visit Banrock Station. Hedley organised a three car convoy for the trip (thank you to Hedley, Bob and Jenny for driving). Wine was tasted and purchased, before heading back to the Waikerie Bakery for a midday meal.
At 2-00 pm eleven of us had our photo taken before boarding the motor vessel the Qatar, for a two and a half hour cruise upstream along the River Murray. James Schober gave an excellent commentary. Seven different species of water birds were seen and also an Aboriginal Canoe Tree. Sandra Schober served locally produced wines and beers, together with two platters of locally grown dried fruit, which made the cruise even more enjoyable. Sandra showed us an album of photos revealing the purchase of an old derelict fibre glass hull, which James and his best mate transformed into a first class motor vessel registered to carry 13 people. There are three decks in this compact boat, the bottom deck is the sleeping quarters & toilet, the middle deck has the steering and engine control, with padded seats and kitchen facilities and the balcony deck, also has steering and engine control, which can be isolated from the middle deck.
Waterloo Wind Farm Grant Success
Many thanks to Alison Schutz, for helping us successfully apply for a Waterloo Wind Farm grant to assist with expenses. On the 23rd September 2024 a cheque for $2,000 was presented to Hedley & Jenny on behalf of the Eudunda Probus Club at the Soldiers Memorial Hall, Waterloo.
Representatives from other not for profits from the Clare & Gilbert Valley and Goyder Councils who also won grants attended.
Thank You to Waterloo Wind Farm!
Elizabeth Talks Up Stobie Poles
Wednesday 21st August 2024. Elizabeth Young spoke about the 48 stobie poles around Eudunda, which display the culture and heritage of Eudunda, done by several local gifted artists. Permission was given by the S.A. Power Networks and the Regional Council of Goyder. Members of the Eudunda Hub complex are offering to prepare the boards to be used. Establishments, such as the rabbit cannery near Mt. Misery and Handke Butcher’s and Australian Indigenous people will be featured on future stobie poles.
Probus Visit “The Barn at Wombat Flat” at Neales Flat
On the 20th February 2019 The Probus Club of Eudunda and Districts Inc. saw twenty four members and two visitors meet at the Wombat Flat Barn at Neales Flat which William Woithe originally bought in 1861.
In the early 1900’s the homestead became the Neales Flat Post Office as well.
In the 1970’s Mike Roberts and Di Bills purchased the property and converted the old horse stable into an entertainment centre. Over 20 tonnes of horse manure was excavated. Because of termite damage, steel plates were concreted into the ground and bolted onto the gnarled gum posts supporting the shed.
Mike Roberts was born in New York and together with Di Bills taught at the Eudunda Area School.
Mike, being an accomplished guitar player, organises bands and singers to perform from a stage complete with sound and lighting, and has placed photos of performances on the Internet, YouTube and Facebook. One such event raised $12,000 for Cancer Research, Shows are usually held during the cooler months of the year. A maximum of 100 people with bookings essential.
Mike played and sang two songs which were enjoyed by all.
Jennie Schutz presented Mike and Di with a Probus pen for entertaining us so well. To celebrate a group photograph was taken outside the Wombat Flat Barn.

Afterward nineteen members had lunch at the Eudunda Hotel (Top Pub). Jennie organised another quiz with the top four members received a prize for getting the most questions correct.
