The ladies had a structured practice last Thursday on their programmed bye, and also had a pizza-making session for the Night Bowls suppers.
President Betty Marshall and other bowlers visited Wilma Duldig for her 100th birthday that day with special wishes for a happy birthday from the ladies of the Eudunda Bowling Club. Until recently Wilma had been a loyal member, very good consistent bowler and Patroness of our club.
Our Mid-week Red men had a bye, and the Whites played Freeling at Eudunda resulting in a 54-86 loss. Steve Turner gave Lyall Ryan a shake-up only going down by two shots, Brett Warner was competitive against Shane Marslen, while Dicko’s team could not find the answers for Cotton’s superb bowling.
Division 1 notched up another convincing win against Kapunda under the roof with an arctic wind blowing through. All four teams contributed to the 115-77 win; Jono Voigt over Jack Trotta, Kym ‘Chucka’ Schutz over Kevin Absolom, Aaron Jones over Bill Phillips and Chris Jones over D. Heathfield.
Division 2 played Angaston White at Angaston and fell victim to Angaston’s superior bowling. Ron Hams encountered the formidable Clarrie Tabe, Grant Doecke’s two disastrous ends cost his team the game by one shot against David Tye, and Mally Schutz’s six-shot loss was influenced by ‘Milky’ Johnson’s skipper bowls taking the shot in the closing ends of the game.
Division 3 Red played Kapunda on the home turf and went down 53-71. Pat Obst had a tight match going down by only one shot to Tony Scoot, Kelvie Schulz was down by two shots to Anita Thiele after being in the lead at ‘smoko’, and Kiwi was down to D. Wood.
Division 3 White side defeated Nuriootpa Black at Eudunda 85-46. Felix Schiller won by three shots over Colin Reuter, Bob Leditschke was down by four shots, however the shining light was GG Schutz who team had a massive win 46-6. New bowler and team member Karl Milde was elated to have his first win in pennant bowls.
Another ‘8’ badge was won last Saturday at Eudunda, being the team of Felix Schiller, David Mansell, Ron Dunsdon and Marg Nietschke. This is the third week in a row where a ‘8’ badge has been won, creating history in the Eudunda Bowling Club. A team in each of the three Divisions have won an ‘8’ in these first three weeks of the season.
Please put your names down for the Men’s and Ladies Club Championships in the next two weeks so that the draw and play can begin in early November, which needs to be completed in January. Also any club members please enter the State events asap.
